So, what’s holding you back from your dream writing career?
A successful writing career is not all about writing books. It’s about building a lifestyle that allows you to write novel after novel without getting burnt out. This is where the creative practice comes in.
A creative practice is an intentional, routine-oriented method for recharging your creative energy battery, maximizing on your creativity, and helping you feel more inspired in your day-to-day. A creative practice is the KEY to a successful writing career, because it allows you to write books consistently and confidently without feeling burnt out, exhausted, or uninspired.
I stumbled upon the creative practice four years ago, at a time when I was struggling with my mental health and hadn’t been writing. I felt unmotivated, uninspired, and discouraged, and was beating myself up about the fact that I just couldn’t seem to get anything done.
One morning, I was writing in my notebook and I decided to make a mess on the page, because why not? I sprayed my favorite perfume on it, used nail polish to add texture, sketched an image I had in my head, and filled the page with whatever words came to mind.
This process inspired me because it gave me a break from the pressure of writing all the time. It gave me the confidence to do whatever I wanted on the page.
It was the beginning of what would later become my own creative practice.
Since that day, I have dedicated myself to learning about the creative process. I’ve made it my mission to develop a method for teaching the creative process so that more female writers can experience the empowerment and inspiration I felt. Here are some of the things I’ve learned:
- Creativity leads to inspiration and inspiration leads to creativity. Therefore, the more you create, the more inspired you will feel to continue creating.
- Creative energy is like a battery. You have to actively charge it.
- Your creative practice will charge your creative energy battery. Without a practice, you won’t be able to replenish your store of energy and will feel uninspired, exhausted, and unmotivated.
- Every successful writer has some version of a creative practice, routine, or method. They have specific tools to get motivated and inspired when it’s time to write.
- Inspiration and motivation are not as fleeting as you might think.
A creative practice will allow you to take control of your motivation and inspiration. By implementing a creative practice, you will be able to actively recharge your creative energy battery and feel more inspired whenever you sit down to write.
Ultimately, in order to build a writing career, you need to write and finish books you’re proud of. A creative process will give you the confidence, motivation, and inspiration to write more often without burning out. This will lead to increased creative output and ultimately, to a successful career.
